Whetstone is a large village with a population of approximately 6500. It is situated 5 miles to the south of Leicester and within close proximity to M1/M69. It is often referred to as a commuter village although there are a large number of business premises  with the largest being ALSTOM/ALSTEC (originally GEC, home of Frank Whittle and the Jet Engine).

There are three churches, Whetstone Baptist, St. Peter’s Church of England and Whetstone United Reformed and two  Primary Schools, St. Peter’s Church of England (Aided) and Badgerbrook Primary.
