Markfield village is surrounded by countryside. There are lots of public footpaths to choose from out of the village , including the well known Leicestershire Round, which passes along Main Street.

Markfield has two public houses, the Queens Head and the Bulls Head.  Markfield has Chinese, Indian and Turkish takeaways, a fish and chip shop, a newsagent, an independent shop selling organic produce, a Co-Op supermarket, a hardware shop, a financial advisory office, a GP surgery, a chemist, a Londis supermarket, a post office, a library, a leisure centre and a cafe. There are also a few hair-dressing salons and a light industrial estate.
